6 Steps To Achieve A Flawless Self Tan

BEFORE

AFTER

If you have been following me for awhile, then you know I am a huge self tanning fan. I was blessed with super pale skin (as seen above), which is not a bad thing! However, I personally like to have a tan or at least a little glow all year round. I have tried SO many different brands and types of self tanners over the years. Some were great, and others not so much.

I recently had the chance to try out Golden Star Beauty’s self tanning products, and I am obsessed. Golden Star Beauty’s products are all certified organic, which is amazing and is formulated for all skins types and complexions. Their ingredients also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while nourishing your skin.

This was the first time I had ever used a tanning oil, and was really impressed. It applied wonderfully and dried extremely fast without leaving my skin feeling sticky. The color was nice and dark, without looking orange or streaky and it didn’t have that gross smell that most tanners have, which was a major plus. Golden star Beauty has several different products to choose from.

Since I have had many many years experience self tanning, I thought I’d share with you 6 Tips To Get A Flawless Looking Tan. After several trial and errors I have found these tips work the best for achieving and maintaining a tan that looks like you have basking in the sun all summer long.

1. EXFOLIATE

Exfoliate Exfoliate Exfoliate! I don’t think I can stress that enough. Exfoliation is probably one of the most crucial step in the self tanning process, and often times gets overlooked. Why is it so important you might ask? Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and exposes new and smoother skin underneath. By creating a soft and smooth canvas, your self tanner will not only apply easier, but it will ensure a long lasting and even looking tan. There are so many exfoliaters on the market, but I have to say my favorite is just using plain old sugar. I take a small bowl in the shower with me and add a tiny bit of water and just scrub it all over and boy does my skin feel soft.

2. Cold Water Rinse

Yep you read that right, cold water. While that might not sound like the most enticing thing (I love myself a hot shower) rinsing off with cool water just before you self tan will help close your pores and prevent them from filling up with your tanner. You definelty don’t want to be covered in tiny dark dots.

3. Moisturize

Along with exfoliation, moisturizing is another crucial step in the self tanning process. You want to moisturize areas that tend to be rough and drier, like knees, elbows, ankles, and knuckles. This helps smooth out your skins texture and prevents patchy spots.

It’s also extremely important to moisturize in the days after you self tan to help prolong your color. Dry skin flakes easily, and your tan will come off in that process. By keeping your skin hydrated, your tan will last much longer.

4. Apply At Bedtime

I find the best time to apply self tanner is at bed time. Many products require your color to be on for at least 6 hours without rinsing, sweating etc. and that is much harder to do during the day. Plus the longer your tan stays on, the deeper and darker your color will develop, so having it on throughout the whole night will give you the best color payoff.

5. Use Mitts Or Gloves

We’ve all been there, using our hands to apply our tanning lotion and hoping we can finish fast enough before the color sets in to the palms of our hands. Thankfully tanning mitts now exist. Not only do the mitts protect your hands from getting stained, they also help blend the product seamlessly onto your skin. I love that Golden Star Beauty has two different sized mitts, a large one for your body and a mini for your face and hands a feet.

6. Use Hairdryer To Speed Up Drying

Last but certainly not least, speed up the drying process with your hair dryer. After you apply your self tanner, you need to wait until you are completely dry to put any clothing back on. Sometimes this can take awhile, so by grabbing you hairdryer (using the cool setting) you can set the color into place quickly.

Oh and before I forget, you can use code GOLDENSTAR42 to save 10% off your order on their site or Amazon.

Love, Jess
